A nationwide 24-hour strike in Greece on Wednesday, 1 October 2025 is expected to cause travel disruption across the country. The action has been called by Greece’s two largest unions, GSEE and ADEDY, in protest at new labour legislation. It may affect trains, ferries, inter-city transport and air travel, including the work of air traffic control and ground-handling teams.

Jet2’s position

Jet2 says it is monitoring the situation and plans to operate all flights as scheduled. Customers are advised to arrive at the airport on time and follow updates via Jet2’s official channels. Jet2 adds there’s no need to contact them proactively; any changes will be communicated directly and published on their website.

What might be affected in Greece

  • Airports: Possible ground delays, longer queues at security/baggage and ATC-related flow restrictions.
  • Ports & ferries: Reduced or cancelled sailings, with limited alternatives.
  • Rail & public transport: Reduced frequencies or full stoppages on some routes.
  • Taxis & transfers: Lower availability and longer waits, particularly at peak times.

What to do if you’re travelling on 1 October

  • Check your flight status regularly on the airline’s app or website, especially on the morning of travel.
  • Allow extra time for airport formalities and transfers; pre-book transport where possible.
  • Keep essentials in your hand luggage: medication, chargers, a change of clothes and travel documents saved offline.
  • If you’re connecting to ferries or domestic flights, confirm schedules with providers and consider backup plans.
  • Travel insurance: keep policy details handy and understand your cover for delays and missed connections.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled

Airlines typically provide duty of care during significant disruption (e.g., refreshments and, if needed, accommodation). Compensation rules can vary depending on the cause of the delay and applicable regulations; strikes affecting air traffic control or airport operations are often treated as extraordinary circumstances. Always follow the instructions provided by your airline for rebooking and support.
