Indian low-cost airline IndiGo has announced plans to launch new international services, including flights to London, as part of a broader global expansion strategy. The airline, already the largest in India, aims to add ten new overseas destinations by the end of the current financial year, which concludes in March 2026.
Among the newly confirmed routes is a direct service between Manchester and Mumbai, set to begin in July. This, along with a new route to Amsterdam, also launching in July, will mark IndiGo’s first services to Europe.
Speaking at a recent press conference, CEO Pieter Elbers revealed that London is one of the ten international destinations IndiGo plans to serve in the coming months. While specific launch dates and connected cities have not yet been disclosed, the introduction of London flights is expected within this financial year.
IndiGo currently operates flights to 40 international destinations and 90 domestic cities, supported by a fleet of over 430 aircraft. The airline will deploy Boeing 787 aircraft, leased from Norse Atlantic, on its new long-haul European routes.
As part of its international growth, IndiGo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Virgin Atlantic and its joint venture partners Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines. The agreement will link IndiGo’s extensive domestic network to a wider range of cities across the United States, Canada, Europe, and India.
Pieter Elbers highlighted the airline’s long-term vision, stating:
“IndiGo has embarked on an ambitious journey to become a global airline by 2030. This partnership represents another important milestone to pursue commercial synergies, operational excellence and innovation.”
Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss also commented on the development, emphasising the benefits of increased connectivity and deeper collaboration.
“As IndiGo starts long-haul operations, we’ll connect four of the world’s largest economies, enhancing the travel experience for our guests with greater connectivity, optimised flight times, and added loyalty benefits.”
